Signal boost

Many people may remember reading about Sakineh, the Iranian woman who was scheduled to be stoned to death. That did not happen as scheduled, apparently because of the level of public objection to it across the world. However, it appears that she could still be executed soon, so avaaz.org is asking for donations to support newspaper campaigns in Brazil and Turkey, because they judge that the leaders of those countries may have some influence on the Iranian authorities.

They even hope eventually to persuade the Iranians to stop stoning people to death – actually, they appear only to stone women to death. That might be a bit over optimistic, but one has to make the attempt.
