Technological failures
Aug. 27th, 2008 02:45 pmOver the past few days I have had to deal with several time-wasting failures of tchnology, some of which I am still working on.
The hard disc in the laptop I use for most of my work started to fail. ( Cut for length )
At around the same time, the power supply for my old Dell Inspiron 8200 quit. It took a long time to hacksaw the case apart and repair the simple fault, a cable failure at the point where the cable exits the case.
I was trying to use the Inspiron, on which I have installed Ubuntu Linux, to salveage files from a more badly damaged disc belonging to
muuranker but so far have had no success. That drive is clicking more severely, and does not ever mount. Under Windows I see a brief directory listing, but the file manager window vanishes when I try to click on anything.
Does anyone know of any tools running under windows or Linux that might help to salvage the files?
