While this is a US based story (which I completely believe, although I suspect it's likely it will get sorted out) similar things can and do happen here, although I suspect it wouldn't go as far here - I don't know the strength or set up of US teaching unions but here they are pretty on the ball, and just about every teacher is a member of one or more.

However, in much more general terms, I'm becoming increasingly glad that I did not manage to make it into the teaching profession, because every which way you turn, there are a myriad of things that can go wrong for the individual teacher, to a ridiculous extent and support (in every sense of the word) from SMTs can be woefully inadequate.
