Now that's skill!

I went to unpick my mother's computer problems last night. Somehow, and all without apparently having any idea how she did it, she managed to:

  1. Right click on the task bar, then left click on the menu item to unlock the taskbar
  2. Rearrange the order of the icons in the quick start toolbar
  3. Slide the right hand edge of the quick start toolbar to the left, so that only one icon is visible
  4. Right click on the taskbar, and left click on the menu item to lock it
  5. Change several other taskbar settings, to add other toolbars that did nothing she wanted
  6. At no time did she manage to click on the icon for Firefox, which would have opened to a "speed dial" page of links to all the sites she would be likely to be interested in. This is despite the screen printout I made with a great big arrow pointing at it saying something like "click here to see the internet".

This reminded me that when I first went to kindergarten school, the teacher asked us all to write our names. I had never been taught to write my name - the teacher did this somewhat later in the term. What I did was was to write a series of random letters, hoping that I might by chance get it right, and if so, I could remember how it was done for the future. The main difference was that my results were random.
